Responsible to enhance the overall Resident experience through the provision of exceptional maintenance of kitchen work areas, employee dining room area, kitchen equipment and utensils, thereby partnering with Culinary and Restaurant team. Keeps heart of the house immaculate and organized up to all Community and regulatory standards and regulations. This is to be handled in The Sterling Touch™ friendly, courteous, helpful, timely and professional manner, resulting in a very high level of resident satisfaction. Position is under the general guidance of Executive Chef in accordance with Community's standards, processes, procedures and practices.

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in Daily Line-up each shift.
  • Greet the Residents, guests and fellow employees in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Establish and maintain high cleanliness and sanitation standards in all kitchen areas, including cleaning, organizing and maintaining work areas.
  • Clean, sanitize, transport and maintain all F&B cooking utensils, dining service ware and Kitchen Equipment.
  • Ensure sufficient operating equipment and cleaning supplies for culinary and dining operation, including the Employee Dining Room.
  • Properly handle and dispose of the waste.
  • Identify and resolve any concerns/breakdowns in a timely manner.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions organized by Community Leadership.
  • Prepare all Chemical requests for the Stewarding Department.
  • Represent the Community in a professional manner.
  • Ensure all cooking utensils and service ware are being returned to dish washing area in a timely manner, and returned to designated area(s) after each shift.
  • Ensure all functions are set-up and ready for the next shift.
  • Document and report breakage/loss of all cooking utensils and service ware for tracking expense and ensuring par inventory levels are maintained.
  • Support achievement of financial goals, by managing supplies and materials expenses efficiently, without compromising the clean and sanitary condition of any aspect of culinary and dining.

Other:

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards as detailed in the Grand Living Sioux Falls Employee Handbook, Orientation, Training and as may be established by Grand Living from time to time, is essential for successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to resident expectations and planned/ unplanned events/occurrences, employees may be required to work varying schedules which reflect the business and service needs of the Community.

Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Grand Living's standards, procedures and processes, including all government and industry regulations, for the safe and efficient operation of the Community. Employees who fail to meet the Grand Living Sioux Falls expectations in all areas will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Supportive Functions:

  • In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, such as cleaning tasks, floor cleaning and drying, etc. with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the Executive Chef based upon the particular requirements of the Community:
  • Be flexible with receiving and effective completion of other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

SPECIFIC POSITION KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:

  • Good working knowledge of expected standards of sanitation and safety.
  • Basic skills necessary to understand product measurements, chemical portions and safe usage.
  • Knowledge of equipment and how to maintain it.
  • Ability to read and speak basic English language to fully comprehend work requests, different utensils and service ware, caution notices, product labels, Community communications, interaction with Residents, guests and fellow employees.
  • Ability to count to support physical inventories.
  • Able to get along with people at all levels within the Community.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity of hands and arms in order to safely and efficiently handle all kitchen utensils and service ware; and safely operate the necessary equipment.
  • Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry, or otherwise move or push on a hand cart/truck, goods weighing a maximum of 200lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk and work continuously in confined spaces without sitting for extended periods of time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. High school diploma preferred

Experience: Some stewarding or related experience preferred but not required.

Licenses or Certificates: Ability to obtain any government required license or certificate

Grooming: All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance as detailed in the Grand Living Sioux Falls Employee Handbook, Orientation and Training.
